Drummer
Simon Parker can be described by most as a good ole country boy who loves to serve can do anything. There are very few things that he can't get done or figure out. You can say the same thing about his drumming. Simon began drumming at a young age, but really started to grow his passion for percussion in the marching band in high school, and has been playing ever since. He grew up in a family that traveled, sang, and played music around the southeast, so he has been around it all his life. Being involved in music and around a family that was in ministry, both came natural to him. His dad is a pastor, so Simon has seen what it takes to be a true minister of the gospel, whether it is through music or through a local church.
Parker graduated high school in 2005, and went to Clayton State University, majoring in Music. There he was faced with a decision to play in a Drum Corps, or play music for Jesus Christ. He began playing in different bands and different churches on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. At first it was fulfilling to him, but after a while he began to get burned out. "Playing multiple times a week is a hard thing to do, especially when you are just going through the motions," stated Parker. He was using his talent to play uplifting music, but there was no real relationship with God. Simon fell prey to what many of us have fallen to, which is a religion, and not a relationship. He felt like a hired hand, and might as well have been playing in a marching band, because there was no purpose behind the music. Simon felt like he was merely skimming the surface of what God had planned, and it was up to him to accept the call of God and be serious about it.
After taking a break from playing music for a while, and focusing his time on a relationship with God, doors began to open. One of those doors was through Simon's roommate, who was a brand new producer in the christian music scene. This friend introduced Simon to Noah, who was recording his first record at the time. When he met Cleveland, he felt something inside tell him that they would play together one day, but didn't say anything. A few months later, he got a call from Noah who was needing a drummer for a concert. The two hit it off really well and the rest is history. Simon has been playing with Noah for over four years now, and is in it for the long haul.
Simon was married to Casey Parker in May of 2008, and have two jack russells.
"If you are playing music for God, make sure you are playing for God. I challenge all musicians in Christian music to look within and truly make sure you are not playing Christian music for the intent of personal fame," stated Parker.
